What is Career & Technology Education?

"Career and technical education is a large and diverse educational enterprise spanning both secondary and postsecondary education.  It encompasses a tremendous number of programs designed to prepare students for employment and for living" (Scott, J. L., & Sarkees-Wircenski , M.,2004, p. 2). 

LEISD Career and Technology Education (CTE) begins at the elementary and continues through the student's high school level courses.

• Intro to Business

• Intro to Health Science Technology
• Health Science Technology I & II
• Medical Terminology
• Intro to Engineering Design
• Principles of Engineering
• Digital Electronics
• Advertising
• Marketing Dynamics
• Sports & Entertainment Marketing

The Advanced Technical Credit (ATC) Program gives high school students a chance to receive credit at participating community colleges across Texas for taking certain enhanced technical courses during high school. 

Teachers attend ATC Training to have their course(s) approved for statewide articulation.

LECTE encourages all of our CTE teachers to particpate in the ATC Training Program.

Did You Know? originally started out as a PowerPoint presentation for a faculty meeting in August 2006 for a staff of 150 teachers at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, United States. The presentation was intended to start a conversation about what our students need to be successful in the 21st Century. The presentation "went viral" on the Web in February 2007 and, by June 2007, had been seen by at least 5 million online viewers. Today the old and new versions of the online presentation have been seen by at least 15 million people, not including the countless others who have seen it at conferences, workshops, training institutes, and other venues.
