April Whitstone, 6th grade science teacher, is a native Texan. She is married to Peter Whitstone and has 4 kids ranging in age from 15-23. Mrs. Whitstone has previous experience teaching pre-Kindergarten for 12 years. She served as a church Youth Director for 4 years before completing her degree in Education from the University of North Texas. She said, "I am super excited to begin teaching this fall. Being a naturally curious person, science appeals to me because it is an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to discovering the "how's" and "why's" of the world around us. In other words, I love conducting experiments". Mrs. Whitstone did her student teaching at Brent.

Bethany Patchet, 5th grade sceince teacher, grew up in Allen, Texas. After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, she completed her teaching certification from the University of North Texas. She is excited to be back in the area to spend time with her wonderful family and friends. Ms. Patchet also enjoys watching movies and learning how to be a better chef. She said, "I am interested in science because I like to ask the question why and how? Science allows us to discover the world around us and fuels our curiosity. I know that this will be a great year at Brent Intermediate and am really excited to get started in a school in which I can work from the foundation already laid in my student teaching!"

Patricia Bond, 5th grade math teacher, has lived in Frisco for 2 years moving here from Tennessee. She is married to Clyde Bond Jr. and has two children Shayla, age 11, and Tre, age 6. She received her Bachelor degree from Henderson State University and her Masters from Webster University. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Bond is very excited about the upcoming year at Brent and
chose math because she worked with numbers in her past profession as a claims adjuster for the insurance industry. She said, "You use math in everyday life and I want to show the importance of Math to students."

Drew Webb, 5th and 6th grade Math Resource teacher and Lubbock native, graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University where he also played baseball. He was a teacher and coach for 10 years before entering the business world in 2006. Later he realized business was not for him. Mr. Webb said, "I was meant to be an educator. I love teaching kids and watching them grow and succeed. I have a beautiful wife of 8 years, Alexis, and two beautiful kiddos, Sarah Peyton, age 5, and Cannon, age 2. I love spending time with my family, going to the lake, taking the kids fishing, hunting, and cooking. Yes, I am the cook in the family!" Mr. Webb is also working on his Masters in Educational Administration.

Amber Knabe, Life Skills Teacher, is married and has a 1 yr old daughter, Juliann. She grew up in Aubrey, Texas and received her Associates Degree from NCTC in Corinth and her Bachelors degree from UNT. She is certified in EC-8, special education, and ESL. Mrs Knabe has worked as a special education aide and as a student teacher. She looks forward to working at Brent. She added, "I chose to work in the life skills class because I worked as an aide at Zellars for the autism unit there and loved it. I want to be a part of helping these students become independent adults, and show other people that these kids are amazing if you take the time to get to know them."

Kevin Donnelly, 5th Grade Bilingual Teacher, is excited to be coming to Brent and the LEISD community. Mr. Donnelly has lived in a variety of places and traveled extensively through the U.S., with many years in Puerto Rico. He has taught virtually every level of education from K-College. His most recent assignment was as a 5th grade bilingual teacher in Grapevine-Colleyville. In addition, he has coached a wide range of sports, but he especially enjoys soccer. His wife, Miriam, is a teacher in Lewisville. They have two daughters: Catalina, 12, and Mariana, 16. Mr. Donnelly added, "I look forward to helping your son or daughter be as successful as they can be!"

Teresa Cruz, computer lab teacher, is married to Steve Cruz and has a daughter Daniela, 21, and a son Fabian, 17, who is a senior this year at LEHS. Mrs. Cruz has previous teaching experience from Monterrey, Mexico, as a Kindergarten teacher. This will be her second year at Brent where she says, "I love everyone here and there is such a good environment at Brent!" She enjoys collecting autographs of celebrities, "I Love Lucy" and Coca-Cola items. Mrs Cruz is very excited to be the new computer teacher this year. She adds, "Since I am new, I will be learning much in the computer lab." Welcome to your new assignment, Mrs. Cruz!

Pam Pauley, ESL teacher, graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1991, after raising two daughters: Neely, an attorney, and Kady, a captain in the U.S. Air Force. She has four beautiful granddaughters: Lauren, Miranda, Allison, and Meghan. Ms. Pauley enjoys reading, canoeing, rock climbing, and playing with her grandchildren.
She has been with Brent for many years as a 5th grade science teacher. She jumped at the chance to help our Limited English Proficiency students for which she holds ESL certification. Welcome to your new assignment, Ms. Pauley!

We are a Capturing Kids' Hearts School: At Brent we believe that we must capture a kid's heart to reach their mind. As such, our goal is to constantly build positive relationships as a foundation for meaningful teaching and learning. In this safe environment students also learn to value each other and help each other succeed. Effective communication with parents is vital to this success.
Arrival: All students enter through the front doors except bus riders who will enter the school through the back doors near the playground. (In bad weather, buses will unload by the art room side door). The cafeteria opens at 7:45 for breakfast. Students who have finished breakfast at school or at home report to the gym. Be sure to have breakfast, water, or use the restroom before entering the gym. Once in the gym, students stay seated in 1st period teacher lines.
Start of Day (8:15 am): Although instruction starts at 8:35 am, activities begin each day at 8:15 am in the gym where teachers escort their 1st period student lines to class. Announcements are made at 8:30.
Dismissal (3:50 pm): 5th grade car pick up is in front of school. 6th grade car pick up is on the side of school by the art room door. Walkers gather in cafeteria where they are esorted by teacher to the edge of school property. Bike or skateboard riders gather in gym will they will be escroted by a teacher out of the building. They must walk to the edge of school property before riding. Bus riders wait seated in assigned areas and are escorted to bus by teacher.
Agendas: Even though parents may know to sign their student's agenda each night, we ask you also to please reveiw the agenda thoroughly. Ask to see the homework assignment to be sure it is completed. Your signature confirms not only that you have read the agenda listings, but that you also have made sure all work is completed and ready to go back to school.
Academy Classes: All students participate in Academy classes at the end of each day to enhance learning and build skills. This time is also used for makeup tests, tutoring, individual support, and enrichment activities. |
